What to Do If You Have Window Condensation on Your New Orleans LA Home

, Condensation on Home WindowsCondensation is a naturally occurring phenomenon that happens when an object is cooler than the air around it. This is why water droplets will form on your glass of ice water while you’re sitting outside or on your home windows on a cold morning. Condensation occurs frequently on your windows, actually, because they have direct contact with the outside air and are often the coldest surface in your home. And, while window condensation isn’t always a cause for alarm, there are a few instances where it should be.

Three Types of Window Condensation

There are three types of condensation that can occur on your home windows:

Exterior Condensation

Condensation on the exterior of your windows is a good sign; it means your windows are properly insulating your home. This happens when the outside air is warmer or more humid than your windows, meaning the inside of your home is cool and comfortable. Simply let the condensation disappear, which it will do as the sun rises.

Interior Condensation

Condensation on the interior of your home windows can be a cause for concern but typically does not require a full window replacement. Instead, it may mean that your home isn’t properly ventilated and you may want to buy a dehumidifier or moisture eliminator to remove excess moisture from the air.

Condensation Between the Window Panes

This is the worst type of condensation that can arise on home windows, as it means the insulating gas inside the window panes has failed and is now letting water vapor inside. These windows are no longer insulating your home and the excess moisture could damage the window opening, walls, and even foundation of your home. In this case, replacing the windows is your best course of action.
